Facebook are starting to test a new feature on their social media site, the automatic video advert. As users scroll through their news feed the video advert will begin to play automatically, whereas before the user had to click on the video to play it. The reason they claim is to help brands target large volumes of people and raise awareness. Facebook claim that since September, when they starting testing the new feature, they have seen a 10% rise in user engagement through the means of likes and sharing video and content.
What are your opinions on this new feature from Facebook? Do you like it?
The automatic video advert will be available on both desktop and mobile platforms, with the exception of only wifi connected mobiles being able to download video so to ensure no unwanted data usage.
With the increasing likelihood that social media sites will start using more advertising on their sites, what will the effect be on customer perceptions and usage. It is likely that Facebook will lose many users due to this recent launch and will continue to do so along with other social media platforms.
