Possibly The Cutest 1 Minute Super Bowl Ad #dsmmcm1314

Well It is that time of year where the American Super Bowl is aired.

But its’s not just America that loves watching the Super Bowl it is a sport that gets aired all over the world, making the advertising time during the game the most wanted air time by thousands of big brands!

This makes the airing time incredibly expensive so brands tend to go for as short an advertisement as they can that still portrays their message.

One of the most talked about adverts is the 60 second Budweiser ‘Puppy Love’, it tugs at your heart strings and makes you feel all happy and soppy! However i’m not too sure it makes me want to drink a Bud?

Have a look at this clever little advert and see if you fall in love with it as much as we have!

BioBalm Comes to MMU #dsmmcm1314

On the 22nd January 2014 the new hand sanitizer ‘BioBalm’ is being sold in Manchester Metropolitan Business School University. MMU have managed to make a deal with the producers for BioBalm; as a result this is exclusively the first place the product will be sold within the UK.

So whats the product? Well it’s an alcohol free hand sanitizer with humours labels.

From reading about the organisation they are basically revamping the clinical look and feel of hand sanitizers with humours, T.V Show & corporate labels, with the aim of getting more people to wash their hands reducing the spreading of infection. Over the past few years we’ve seen an increase in people using hand sanitizers and this seems to be after the government and local health organisations have been rolling out numerous campaigns to spread the awareness of stopping germs.

In my opinion launching in a University is a great way to start, this is as you get hundreds of students walking round in confined environments making it the perfect place for germs to grow and spread; you can see the evidence of this happening with the famous ‘freshers flu’ where at the beginning of university terms viruses get spread from person to person making it hard for students to avoid the bugs! But if students were to regularly use hand sanitizers could this reduce this? I think so which is why BioBalm going on sale in a university is a great idea.

But you may be thinking will this be as effective with an non-alcoholic hand sanitizer. Well good question, this is what I first asked but apparently this non-alcoholic formula used by BioBalm lasts longer than your traditional alcoholic sanitizers and still kills 99.9% of germs. I was able to get a tester of these sanitizers before they went on sale (small perks of writing a blogs).

As you can see I got to try two prototypes of their designs, and I believe these two designs will be available on launch just with a few slight changes to the designs.

The first one is designed around the very famous american t.v show ‘Breaking Bad’ and they cleverly use play on words for their sanitizer and also have blue liquid like the blue crystal meth in the show. And the second one is their simple design ‘Sober’ cleverly named to play on their alcohol free factor. After using them I noticed that you actually don’t need to use as much of the gel than you do for alcoholic ones as it seems to spread further which I think is good as it means you wouldn’t run out as quickly. The other thing I noticed that stood out compared to alcoholic hand sanitizers is that it actually moisturises your hands where as personally for me the alcoholic ones dry them out. However apart from those two factors I didn’t really notice anything else too much different.

But they are selling the product for £1 a bottle on launch day and £1.50 to corporate clients where they design a personalised label for the company. No news on any other dates but I think if you’re not able to get down the MMU tomorrow but fancy a bottle you can contact them through their facebook page to arrange purchase: BioBalm’s Facebook Page   (again social media helping another business).

Lets see how their launch day goes but I will personally be buying a few bottles for £1 as the ones I usually buy are £1.50 and are just a bit boring!

Batkid The Story To Warm Your Heart #dsmmcm1314

It’s always nice when I read stories like this. A lot of the time on the news and in the paper we are often constantly reading horrible things that make us question where did the good in the human race go?

But then we read stories like this that reminds us of all the great people out there!

If you haven’t heard it before the Make-A-Wish foundation made a young boy called Miles Scott dream come true by giving him the chance to be Batman for the day. Scott was unfortunately diagnosed with leukaemia at a young age, but after several years of treatment he is now said to be in remission.

It wasn’t just the wonderful Make-A-Wish foundation that made this young boys dream come true however. Thousands of people from San Francisco came together to help makes this little boys dream come true. Now doesn’t that just show to you how nice people are that they would all come together as a community to help out someone they have never met before. It is an amazing thing that they all did; and it just proves what a city San Francisco is.

Heres the video of what Batman and Batkid got up to that day and you can see how much effort was put in by the city, make-a-wish and all the great volunteers to make it the best day of Scotts life! I hope you enjoy it and it brings a bit of happiness to your day!

Naked Wines #dsmmcm1314

nakedwines

Well if you’ve never heard of them you need to go investigating!

This is a wine group that I have recently joined; now I know what you’re thinking all wine groups are all the same and what is so special about this one? Well let me tell you this one is completely different than the others you think you know of have heard of before.

When you go on the site as a new customer you are instantly asked if you have a voucher giving you discount from your first case (fantastic you can see already that they are interested in looking after you, they are already offering you discount and you haven’t even joined yet!). Now when you are on the site you may notice that you don’t recognise a lot of the wines there. Now that is because the lovely people in Naked Wines support the small winemakers that often get overlooked by the bigger retail chains. Let me tell you these are highly skilled wine makers that make simply delicious wine; and to be honest it is better that you can’t just pop down to the local shop to get a bottle, it makes the whole experience more enjoyable & exciting. You then also have the choice to sign up to Naked Wines and become an ‘Angel’ and all they ask is for you to put a donation into your account every month (minimum of £20). Now this isn’t like signing up to other wine clubs you have no obligations to purchase wine that month and you don’t just get sent a random case of wine that you have no choice over (and wonder if the company have just put together their cheapest wines to rip you off). But you actually get to choose what you spend your money on, from the individual bottles to trying one of their cases if it takes your fancy. But the great think about this £20 is you are showing your support for those independent wine makers that have not been given the chance by others; and because you’ve done this you get rewarded by discounted wines which tend to be supplier prices. In fact if you decide you want to, you can cancel at anytime and get your money back, no strings attached (you can’t say fairer than that). If that is not persuading you yet then how about a FREE bottle of wine a month? Yep that’s right I said free! As another way of saying thanks for the support the wonderful people give you a free bottle of wine (the wine varies month to month) you just simply add it to your order! Now for the quality of the wine you would not find these in the supermarket for such a low price. But that isn’t the half of it, you are also part of one big Naked Wines family with online groups filled with people who leap at the chance to help you. It is great! If you are stuck for what wine to have for a certain meal? No problem someone will help you! The wine makers are also involved in this community and you can tell them your personal thoughts on their wine even if the wine isn’t for you.

Now if I haven’t made you want to join this prestigious wine group then take a look yourself and fall in love with wine again. They are a superb example of a company using digital marketing to interact with their customers; and in my opinion set the bar for which other companies should follow and learn from. (p.s I forgot to mention, if you really don’t like a bottle of wine as an angel Naked Wines will refund the cost back to you. Talk about customer service! Here is a company that cares about YOU).

Marshmallow Fluff #dsmmcm1314

Well this post is a little off our usual blog post topics but I thought it was worth a mention.

dsmmcm1314 fluff

So what is it? Well this is an american marshmallow spread and before last week something I have never tried before. I don’t know why I have heard of it before but just never came across it and wanted to try it. But now thanks to Tesco’s new wider range of products from around the world I got the chance to try it.

And well what can I personally say about it?? AMAZING!!

The basic taste of it is melted marshmallow which is just brilliant (no putting marshmallow on a stick over the fire required). I would only suggest trying it if you do have a sweet tooth and enjoyed marshmallows as I understand it isn’t for everyone. But if you do have a sweet tooth try it!

After purchasing the tasty, sticky spread I then thought ‘how to people eat it’. After getting over the initial ‘get a spoon and try it straight out of the tub’ phase, I then proceeded to google how people eat this jar of marshmallow heaven. In america they have it as a breakfast spread on toast or crackers. But I then learnt about the famous ‘Fluffer-nutter’ which is basically toast & peanut butter & then fluff on top and yes it is delicious! Sounds odd I know but if you enjoy the whole peanut butter and chocolate thing you will love this.

My next recommendation for it is to put it in your hot chocolate.

hot chocolate dsmmc1314

^^ That was my hot chocolate with it in last night & let me tell  you it takes marshmallows in hot chocolate to a whole new level it is yummy. You can mix the spread in with the warm milk during the first stages of the hot chocolate process; or you can (my personal preference) at scoops of the fluff in right at the end. If you do it at the end the fluff seems to absorb some of the warm chocolate milk and swell a bit transforming it from the sticky spread to chocolately vanilla marshmallows – yum!

So go on give it a try on a cold night sat in front of the fire, you will not regret it!

Tweeting Sharks! #dsmmcm1314 #socialmedia

Yes you read correctly, tweeting sharks!

shark

I’ve just come across this interesting article by Richard Brandson where is talking about a new scheme thats happening in Western Australia. The scheme is 300 sharks have been fitted with transmitters and when the shark comes within a kilometre of the shore the transmitters are picked up by underwater receivers that then send an automated tweet (very james bond).  The twitter account is @SLSWA and the idea is that this will update much faster than the news or radio and more people are likely to see it.

Check out the rest of the article here: Now Even Sharks Tweet

So what do we think? I think this is ace because people are actively trying their best to stop attacks from sharks and the swimmers of perth can go in to the sea knowing the officials are doing everything they can keep a barrier between swimmers and sharks.

I also think this is great again at showing us the power of social media and just how much it has grown. So businesses if you are not on social media or involved with it yet, it is not too late get involved in digital marketingand unleash the power of digital.

Grumpy Cat Christmas Video #dsmmcm1314

Well as Christmas is just around the corner and we have done a few posts on the different christmas videos out there I thought this one was worth a mention.

This video seems to have gone viral and it is just crazy take a look.

It features lots of famous cats like the famous moustache cat & the grumpy cat. It is by far the weirdest christmas themed video I have seen and again just reiterates the point that advertisements with animals in them work! I mean look how many people have watched that video. I think that advertisements with animals in appeal to a large target audience as yes their are a lot of animal lovers out there; but also the target market of people who enjoy the humour of animals (especially when this is portrayed in an advert).

I do often wonder why animals advertisements appeal to us so much, but my theory is as they cannot speak our language we always interpret their behaviour in our own way. And it is that successful interpretation that makes a good advertisement. What do you think?

Mid-Term Victory #dsmmcm1314

So as we only have one more day to go until we break up from university; I thought it would be best to keep you updated with whats going on with our course.

Following on from our post What is dsmmcm1314? we told you that this blog gets assessed as part of our final year grade. Well theres also a small competition going on to see which group can get to the top of google. The idea of this is to publicise our blog but also to teach us a bit of “on the job” training of how SEO. And I have to admit, the whole process has been quite fun, from the posting on the blog to watching how google reacts!

But I am very pleased to tell you that thanks to your ongoing support we managed to rank top at the mid-term rankings! So thank you very much to that. BUT the challenge isn’t over we are still wanting to come top for the end of term (which is where it counts). And we will still be constantly updating our blogs so please keep checking and tell us what you think; like I said we are learning and teaching ourselves so we will always take any tips or advice!

Heres a picture from the day of the rankings when we managed to get our blog as the top two on google and our twitter account third!!

dsmmcm1314

So yeah thanks for the support and thought we should be keeping you all updated. But I am really enjoying the digital marketing business!

The Great British Bake off… With a Christmas Twist #dsmmcm1314

Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood (© Bake Off's Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. Image. BBC)

One of the most unlikely shows to capture the hearts of university students is probably one about baking. However, The Great British Bake off proved us wrong by making Tuesday nights a ‘must stay in and watch bake off’ night rather than a ‘go to factory for pound drinks night’. The show hosted by comedians Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, and judged by expert bakers Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood is making a momentous return tonight for a Christmas Special.

Make sure you have full bellies for tonight is promised to be packed with yummy Christmassy treats to make you want to raid your cupboards for anything sweet and delicious. With recipes such as mincemeat streusel, boxing day pie and even a gingerbread house with snow made from icing, tonight’s show will be the perfect way to get in the Christmas mood!

It is on tonight at 8pm on BBC2, make sure you have it recorded!

Merry Christmas!
